Beth Mead has been named the 2021/22 Arsenal Women Player of the Season, beating off competition from Leah Williamson and Vivianne Miedema.
Mead enjoyed a terrific campaign, registering 14 goals and 19 assists in 40 appearances in all competitions.
She set the tone for a dominant season in the Gunners’ first game, netting twice as Arsenal secured a famous 3-2 victory over London rivals Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.
Mead continued to produce magic like this throughout the campaign as her side mounted a serious title challenge before falling away at the tail end of the season.
By the time the campaign finished only Sam Kerr and teammate Miedema had registered more WSL goals and she also topped the assist charts.
Williamson, who made a triumphant return from injury, came second in the Player of the Season poll, while the free-scoring Miedema clinched third. Last year’s winner was Katie McCabe, who failed to make the podium this time around.
After winning the award, Mead will now be fully focussed on securing Euro 2022 glory with England this summer. Although she was overlooked for Hege Riise for the Olympics squad in 2021, her form means she is almost certain to make Sarina Wiegman’s 23 this time around.
