Former Atlanta United player Jurgen Damm is set to return to Liga MX.

The midfielder is nearing a move to Club America, confirming he is currently with the Mexican giants on trial for their preseason run.

Damm has been without a club for several months after his sudden departure from the Eastern Conference side. Head coach Gonzalo Pineda admitted the winger would not be part of team plans during preseason, but wasn’t officially released until February 25.

“Atlanta United announced it has exercised its one offseason Buyout of a Guaranteed Contract on Jürgen Damm. The midfielder will no longer occupy a spot on the team’s roster or count against the 2022 salary budget,” the club stated in the press release.

Damm spent two seasons with the Major League Soccer side after arriving as a free agent from Tigres. He recorded four assists in 24 overall appearances, and scored the game-winner in Atlanta’s 1-0 second leg victory against LD Alajuelense in the 2021 Concacaf Champions League.
