Sergio Busquets has revealed that Barcelona have not approached him about taking another wage cut.

Although things picked up on the pitch since Xavi’s arrival in the dugout partway through the 2021/22 campaign, Barça remain in a perilous situation financially.

The club made several signings in January and are eager to continue their rebuild of the first-team squad this summer. However, several officials have publicly admitted that their spending will be affected by La Liga financial regulations.

One potential solution that has been mooted is first-team players taking further wage cuts. Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba and Busquet previously agreed to slash their earnings last summer, while Samuel Umtiti signed a new long-term deal on drastically-reduced terms in the winter window to allow Ferran Torres to be registered.

Recent reports have suggested that the aforementioned trio would not agree to a further wage hit, and speaking while on international duty, Busquets confirmed these assertions.
