Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian men’s singles badminton player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting is heading to the semifinals of the Indonesia Masters after ejecting 2021 All England champion Lee Zii Jia in the quarter-final match which took place at Istora Senayan Jakarta, Friday.
Ginting incised victory over the Malaysian representative through rubber games 18-21, 21-16, 21-15 after struggling for 69 minutes.
“It feels good to be able to advance to the semifinals. Today I was able to overcome every obstacle on the field. My confidence is also increasing,” said Ginting when met by Antara after the match.
The badminton player from Cimahi, West Java admitted that he was happy because in his recent appearance he began to lead to a performance improvement phase.
Even so, he still has the task of improving the physical and technical aspects that will become the main components of his strategy. The key to winning the 2018 and 2020 Indonesia Masters in this match was to invite Lee into his pattern of play.
With a fast playing style and accurate attack, the world number six player successfully wrapped up the victory over Lee.
“I’m trying to bring Lee Zii Jia into my game. Just trying to make the opponent uncomfortable with my playing pattern,” he said.
Previously from the meeting record, Anthony was indeed superior by bagging four wins from five encounters with Lee Zii Jia.
The last time, the world number six men’s singles won over the Malaysian representative in the quarter-finals of the 2020 Thomas Cup in Denmark, October last year.
With this win, Ginting will face Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Viktor Axelsen in the last four of the BWF Super 500 level tournament.
