Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia has secured a ticket to the semifinals of the men’s doubles at the Indonesia Masters 2022 through Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, although one of them has not fully recovered after undergoing leg surgery.
Marcus, who recently underwent leg surgery, and Kevin defeated the Malaysian pair Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzudin in rubber games 10-21, 21-11, 21-18.
The pair nicknamed Minions then met a pair from China, Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang, who was present at Istora Senayan as qualifying participants.
“The condition of the leg is only about 70 percent, there is still a little pain so you can play. Although there is still pain, you still have to try your best,” said Marcus about his match at Istora Senayan Jakarta, Friday.
Even though he has not fully recovered, Marcus is still committed to playing his maximum regardless of his condition in front of fans from the country.
“The injury doesn’t know when it will fully heal, he said (the doctor) has been able to do sports for about a month. So, I’ll just maximize the game first, I miss not playing here for a long time,” said Marcus.
The world number one pair immediately came under pressure from the eighth seed to the point of not being able to develop their strategy. In the second game, the Minions began to take the initiative to attack Goh/Nur and lead by 12-5. They took advantage of this absolute advantage to accelerate the enemy’s resistance and forced the third game to be played.
“The first game we lost to start, they pressed first and we couldn’t improve. But, in the third game we just forced it. Marcus’ condition like this is also no problem, we can still play comfortably,” said Kevin.
