The MLS disciplinary committee has released its decisions for Week 14 of the 2022 season, issuing a couple of fines and extending a suspension.

Thiago Almada was sent off for aggressive behavior and making unwanted physical contact with a match official after the final whistle of Atlanta United‘s 2-1 defeat at home to the Columbus Crew at the end of May.

Originally a one-match ban, Almada will now serve another two games on the sidelines and pay an undisclosed fine following a review of the incident.

“The play was reviewed under Disciplinary Committee Parameter 2, in which the MLS Disciplinary Committee may act where the officials see an incident and issue a red card,” a statement from the committee read.

“The Disciplinary Committee may review the play for further disciplinary action, over and above the mandatory suspension and fine. Under Parameter 2, supplemental discipline (suspension and/or fine) will be administered if the Disciplinary Committee believes the offense is egregious in nature, and/or it must act to protect player safety, and/or it must protect the integrity of the game, and/or the player is guilty of repeat behavior.”

Almada will miss matches against Inter Miami, Toronto FC, and the New York Red Bulls.
