Malang (ANTARA) – PSM Makassar coach Bernardo Tavares said his team was ready to surprise the inaugural Group D match of the 2022 Presidential Cup against host Arema FC at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang, East Java, Saturday (11/6).
“For the results, of course I won’t say we will win or we will lose. I can make sure that my foster children give their best,” Tavares said at a press conference in Malang, Friday.
Tavares likened the match to a battle between David and Goliath because he considered Arema as one of the big teams in Indonesia that currently continues to make improvements by bringing in a number of new players.
Therefore, Tavares believes the match will continue to be fierce despite a number of mainstay players mad lion, such as Irsyad Maulana and Kushedya Hari Yudo will be absent.
“But that doesn’t mean David can’t give a surprise. That’s what we want in the match against Arema FC,” he said.
He admitted that he had participated in several test matches which were carried out by the team managed by Eduardo Almeida. The capital will be used as material to surprise the match which was held at the Kanjuruhan Stadium.
“I hope tomorrow’s match will be an interesting match. Because we will face one of the strongest teams in Liga 1,” he said.
Although currently Arema still doesn’t have foreign attackers, he continued, but that doesn’t mean strength Crazy Lion will decrease. This is because there are still many local players who have above average abilities.
“They did lose Carlos Fortes, but local Arema FC players also have quality,” concluded Tavares.
