Malang (ANTARA) – Persikabo 1973 coach Djadjang Nurdjaman stated that his team had no other choice but to be ready for the 2022 President’s Cup pre-season tournament even though they did not get the ideal time to prepare.
“We have to be ready, although in terms of preparation, to be honest the timing is relatively less than ideal because we only started training in mid-May 2022,” Djadjang said at a press conference in Malang City, East Java, Saturday.
Djadjang’s foster children who are members of Group D will start their performance against Persik Kediri at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency, Sunday (12/6) tomorrow.
Although admitting that Persikabo’s preparation time was not ideal, Djadjang realized that this situation was not the specialty of his team but all the teams that would take part in the President’s Cup.
Djadjang hopes that the lack of preparation will not cause big problems and hopes that Persikabo can reap optimal results, especially in the opening match against Persik
“We have to be ready to face Kediri, all teams seem to have experienced the same condition,” he said.
Besides Persik, in Group D Persikabo also joined PSM Makassar and hosted the group phase of Arema FC. Overall, Djadjang, who admitted to bringing a squad of 28 players to Malang Raya, considered that all teams in Group D had an equal chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals.
However, Djadjang highlighted that Arema clearly benefited from being the host of Group D and also the condition of the squad which he considered more complete.
“Arema FC is indeed the most favored. But Persik and PSM can also be surprising. Because both clubs are also well prepared. This means that all clubs have the opportunity to qualify for the next round,” he said.
Djadjang targets Persikabo first to be able to escape from the group stage and he asks his team to win every match played in Kanjuruhan.
“Target, we are trying step by step. We are trying to qualify from the group D phase. We will try to keep going, hopefully the result can reach the final round,” he said.
After facing Persik tomorrow, Persikabo will continue the schedule to serve PSM on Wednesday (15/6) and close with a meeting against host Arema four days later.
