India take on Afghanistan in their quest for AFC Asian Cup 2023 qualification on Saturday.

The Blue Tigers beat Cambodia 2-0 in their first game and will look to continue their momentum against Afghanistan.

However, it must be noted that a win might not come as easily as one would expect.

India took the lead via a 75th-minute own goal courtesy of Afghanistan goalkeeper Ovays Azizi, but the Afghans pulled back their equaliser minutes later, through their teenage sensation Hossein Zamani. A third-place finish in Group E meant that India move directly to the third round of qualifiers for the AFC Asian Cup China 2023.

India missed chances after chance to win the game, but could only come away with a point in their 1-1 draw away against Afghanistan.

The Afghans took the lead in the game late in the first half, followed by India’s reply late in the second half courtesy of Seiminlen Doungel.

India beat Afghanistan in the SAFF Championship final in 2016.

Afghanistan went unbeaten in the tournament, only to be beaten by the Blue TIgers in the final.

Jeje and Chhetri scored the two important goals in the final against Afghanistan, who could only manage a single goal.

The Afghans managed to find the lead in this game but the Indians fought back to win the game 2-1.
