Barcelona vice president Eduard Romeu has hit out at La Liga chief Javier Tebas for his public statements on their pursuit of Robert Lewandowski.

Tebas recently stressed that it is financially impossible for Barcelona to sign Lewandowski, insisting the Blaugrana have breached the league’s economic rules and must make significant budget cuts before they can even think about signing the Bayern Munich striker.

Mundo Deportivo recently reported that Tebas’ comments had concerned Lewandowski’s agent, who is said to have called Barcelona for an explanation as the Poland international was worried about the situation.

Now, Romeu has confessed to MD that Tebas’ involvement has created a handful of problems.

“We were also meeting in the board of directors when these statements were released,” Romeu said. “We found out from the reaction of the player’s representatives who, logically alarmed, contacted us and we had no choice but to react.”
