Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian women’s doubles Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti advanced to the final of the 2022 Indonesia Masters after defeating Malaysian pair Tan Pearly/Thinaah Muralitharan in the semifinals at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, Saturday.
Even though they had lost the first game, Apriyani/Fadia were able to get back up to win 21-23, 21-14, 21-14 after going through a match that lasted one hour and 14 minutes.
This is Apriyani/Fadia’s first win over the 10th-ranked Malaysian pair since the two were first paired last February and made their debut at the 2021 SEA Games Vietnam, May.
Apriyani/Fadia, who came as the seventh seed, opened the scoring before being involved in a point chase ahead of the first interval and only one point ahead at 11-10 before the break.
The match got tighter at the end of the first game when the two pairs took turns leading the points to equalize.
Pearly/Thinaah reached game point first at 20-18. However, the return of the ball out of the field from Pealry had time to delay their victory to reach match points.
Thinaah’s low ball that failed to cross the opponent’s field resulted in a 20-20 deuce before Fadia’s unreachable shot sent the Malaysian pair back to 21-20 game points.
Pearly/Thinaah secured a 23-21 victory in the opening game after the return of the ball wide from Fadia and the Malaysian pair’s serve could not be reached by the Indonesian pair.
In the second game, Apriyani/Fadia again opened the scoring until the interval. The pair who won the SEA Games 2021 Vietnam gold appeared more pressing in this game, which made it quite difficult for the Malaysian pair to overcome the attacks from Apriyani/Fadia.
Smes from Apriyani forced the Malaysian pair to play a rubber game after Apriyani/Fadia won the second game 21-14.
Entering the third game, Apriyani/Fadia looked comfortable with the variety of attacks they launched to take the lead until the first interval.
But after changing sides of the field, the Malaysian pair seemed to have regained their confidence to catch up with them.
However, Apriyani/Fadia did not let the opponent control the match any longer, until in the end Apri/Fadia successfully completed the deciding game with a score of 21-14 and secured a ticket to the final of the Super 500 level tournament.
Previously, the debutant pair who won the SEA Games gold medal in 2021 passed the first hurdle by eliminating Dutch representatives Debora Jille/Cheryl Seinen in the round of 32 (7/6), and eliminating South Korean women’s doubles Lee So Hee/Shin Seung Chan to advance to the semifinals of the Indonesia Masters. 2022 (10/6).
In the final on Sunday, Apriyani/Fadia will challenge the top seed from China who is also the silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan.
